Horses in Pastel
Although acrylic is my primary medium of expression, I still enjoy drawing/painting with pastels in colorful, close-up and semi-abstract compositions of horses.
Working dark to light, I scrub in an initial layer of color over my red-orange toned sanded pastel paper, leaving some of the orange color peeking through. I blend areas with my fingers and rework the surface again using a variety of stokes and different mark-making techniques to create an abundance of textures.
I like the rich depth of color and the immediacy of the results I can achieve with pastels.
