My technique in working with acrylic paint is called ‘drip painting’, which is a style of ‘action painting’ and a form of Abstract Expressionism.
Action Painting emphasizes the process of making art rather than the subject, with a variety of techniques including dripping, pouring, dabbing, smearing, and even flinging paint on to the surface of the canvas. These energetic techniques depend on broad gestures directed by the artist’s sense of control interacting with chance or random occurrences.
In drip painting the paint moves freely without the interference of a brush, and the illusion of three-dimensional depth is eliminated.
