"Wading" |
Today I did a demo of three small boats at the Nonantum reception. It was the first time I used UArt sanded pastel paper, 400 grit, cream surface color. What a great paper!

I started a portrait commission as my demo at the Nonantum today. I will finish it by the end of the week...
I also started a small painting of Cape Porpoise lighthouse which I will post tomorrow after I've worked more on it...

"Scarborough Marsh" 7"x11" |
Today I went out to paint with my pastel group. I did a scene of the marsh on another piece of UArt sanded pastel paper, this time 600 grit. I also started work on the stone bridge on Wallis museum grade paper that I tinted orange first...

Today I took off for greener pastures, literally, and travelled to Vermont. There I will participate in a pastel painting workshop, my first, with Lorenzo Chavez.

"Pine Tree Sketch"

What a great demo with Lorenzo! Today I focused on a pine tree trunk in front of a white building as my setting (see my sketch). I used pink Canson paper, the smooth side, to pastel on.
To keep the energy of the sketch, I used the hatched technique with my pastels.

Today we went to a farm site near the Mad River and this farm in the distance. I worked on UArt sanded pastel paper, 500 grit. I also decided to crop the image after I had started to work on it to a more square composition.

This week I have been preparing for my grand opening and today, the day before, I have loads to do but I had to go into the studio and paint! I have several pieces in various stages of completion, and this cow painting was beckoning me to
finish it up so it could hang next to the other cow pieces I have created!!!

The grand opening was a great success! Over 60 people, friends, neighbors, collectors and business associates attended plus 7 canines! Here are some gallery photos of the event and one of our rescued hound mix Gretchen
peeking out from under one of the folding screens in my office area where more paintings were hung!

Today was 'Paint the Port' benefit plein air paint-out and auction. I worked on three different scenes in the 7 hours I was at Cape Porpoise painting.
The first piece, Day off, is my auction piece. The other 2 pieces are works in progess...
