Tonight I did a short demo of a landscape for my Pastel and Composition class at Wells Adult Ed. The lesson was to do a 3-value sketch of their chosen subject and then paint it in any colors they want.     Comments

Today I had to tint more of my Wallis paper before I could draw some larger Highlanders. While the paper was drying I worked on these three Highland calves.     Comments

Today I worked on 2 more Highlander pieces... I just love their faces, so expressive. The colors make them come alive. The light yellows in the images appear white on the computer.     Comments

Sacred Breed
10"x8"
Today I made several sketches of sheep and lambs, and more Scottish Highlanders. This female in side profile attracted me as some others have, as you will see in future days. (The light yellows appear white on the computer.)     Comments

Mule Portrait

Highland Matriarch
8"x10"
This morning I was up early and found my way into the studio while my hubby was still sleeping. One of the paintings, the Mule Portrait that I did in N Carolina, bothered me so I revisited it. This morning I worked on it and then finished the Highland Matriarch.     Comments

Highland Matriarch
in progress, 8"x10"
Today I had a busy meeting day but in between that and cleaning the house, I managed to get a good start on another Highland cow. This is one of the females in the herd; she was very curious about me. (The light yellows appear white on the computer.)
Female Highlander cows weigh approximately 2000 lbs and males are often heavier. Scottish Highlander cows usually eat 140 lbs of grass in an eight hour day. Highland cattle are beef cows, but they know I don't eat meat!     Comments

Three Mollies

Highlander Calf
6"x4"
Today I had a very productive day! I have been working on a new piece with 3 mules and have it just about finished now. I also went through some work 'in progress' in my studio and found some paintings I'd sketched of cows that I never got to painting. I worked on one of this Scottish Highlander calf.     Comments
