Step 1,

Today I worked on another cow painting of a single Holstein. I also did some experimenting with Stonehenge printmaking paper and my pastels. The other piece I am working on is a snow leopard portrait. Here is the drawing on sanded pastel paper ready to go.     Comments

"Himalayan Queen - Step 4"
19"x15"
Today I blocked in most of the cat in the underpainting and then the overlay of the final colors... I had to stop as I am tired!     Comments

"Jaguar Step 4"
18"x12"
Today I worked on changing my backgrounds to non-specific ones... I completed the snow leopard and changed Lone Holstein.

I also started another cat painting, this time of a jaguar cub. I started the same way I did the snow leopard, except this time I am used my orange-tinted Wallis museum paper. I transferred the image and blued the spots. I made some minor adjustments to the drawing at this point, also. I set the blue pastel with water and let it dry. Then I started to block in the colors. This is as far as I have gotten today. More another day...     Comments

"Jaguar - Step 6"
18"x12"
I worked on the jaguar painting this morning and finished blocking in the background, as you can see in the first image posted today. Later this afternoon I returned to finish it. I also worked on Shy Cow and scrubbed out the background and some detail on the left side; I removed the fence at the bottom of the painting ... much better! I feel the cow and cat paintings are more dramatic with the colorful backgrounds.     Comments

"Zebra - Step 2"
16"x12"
I worked on the background of the jaguar painting this morning and I also started the zebra painting. I transferred the drawing to my orange-tinted Wallis paper, adjusting the drawing a bit. I started to block in the first layer of pattern on the zebra's face and in the background. More tomorrow...     Comments

"Golden Boy"

"Another Pretty Face"
16"x12"
As you can see, I am working out my process for my backgrounds again today. The zebra's background was scrubbed off several times and until I settled on the finished piece above. I also brought back some of the blues and enhanced some of the golds in the background of the jaguar.     Comments

"Captivated"
14.5"x11"
I created a painting of a cheetah on Passion watercolor paper, which is handmade, cold pressed, 200lb weight and very textured. I coated the paper with gesso first and let it dry. Then I covered the surface with burnt sienna acrylic paint and rubbed it around. I had actually prepared the surface several months ago for a collage. I am happy with the way it turned out.     Comments

"Nap Time"
15"x9"
< Today I started another painting on another unconventional pastel surface, 2 jaguar cubs. This surface is also watercolor paper, 140 lb, cold press that has watercolor-tinted rice paper applied to it. I decided to separate the cubs and create 2 paintings. Both are finished above...     Comments
